ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The San Diego State women's golf team sits in 11th place at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational after the second round was suspended on Monday due to inclement weather. Play will resume on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. MT/6:30 a.m. PT to be followed immediately by the final round on the par-72, 6,317-yard UNM Championship Course.
The Aztecs find themselves at 11-over-par for the tournament thus far, trailing host New Mexico (+8) by three shots for 10th place, while California (+6) occupies the ninth position behind Oklahoma (-1) and Arizona (+3), respectively.
SDSU has been led by Sirene Blair, who remains tied for third on the individual leaderboard at 7-under through the turn of the second round. Starting on the No. 6 tee, the Aztec senior carded a 69 during the morning session, highlighted by a team-high seven birdies. She also overcame an early bogey in the afternoon with five straight birdies on holes 12-16 to climb into contention.
Elsewhere, fellow classmate Natalie Vivaldi is among a pack of nine golfers tied for 24th at even-par in her first collegiate tournament for the Scarlet and Black after transferring from Colorado this past summer. The Rancho Buena Vista High alumnae played steady golf in the opening round with a 72, notching 14 pars while draining two birdies to offset a pair of bogeys.
The Aztec delegation also includes sophomore Kitty Tam (T-71st, +8), junior Haleigh Krause (T-78th, +10) and sophomore Daniela Anastasi (T-90th, +13).
Oklahoma State (-12) vaulted to the top standings before the rains came, grabbing a two-shot lead over Arizona State (-10), while Baylor (-8) sits in third, followed by Colorado (-6), Northwestern (-2) and Iowa State (-2).
Colorado's Esther Lee (-14) sits atop the leaderboard, while Monica Vaughn of Arizona State (-8) currently occupies the runner-up spot, one shot ahead of SDSU's Blair and Krystal Quihuis of Arizona.
