SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's basketball coach Brian Dutcher announced today that guard Montaque Gill-Caesar has left the program due to medical reasons. The junior, who continues to be on scholarship and is in good academic standing, is enrolled at the University for the upcoming spring semester.

"We appreciate all of the effort Teki (Montaque) has made during his time with our program," Dutcher said. "I know his injuries have been a source of frustration for him. Our hope is that he can focus on getting better while continuing his academic pursuits. We wish him and his family great success."

A host of ailments kept Gill-Caesar from reaching his full potential this season. He missed five of SDSU's 12 games to date. For the season, he saw action in seven games and averaged 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds, and shot 38.5 percent from the field.

During the 2015-16 campaign, his first season playing with the Aztecs, he saw action in 26 games and averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds.

A native of Vaughn, Ontario, Gill-Caesar started his collegiate career with Missouri, playing for the Tigers during the 2014-15 season, prior to transferring to San Diego State.
