SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as an ITA All-Academic team following the 2017-18 academic year. Recent graduate Paola Diaz de Regules was also acknowledged as an ITA Scholar-Athlete for her work in the classroom throughout her senior year.
In order to be eligible for the ITA All-Academic Team award, a squad must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale), and all varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018). The Aztecs have now earned the award for four straight academic years, beginning their current run in 2014-15.
Diaz, who graduated in the spring of 2018 with a degree in international security and conflict resolution, earns the individual distinction for a fourth consecutive academic year having also made the ITA's Scholar-Athlete list following her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, players must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 over the course of the 2017-18 academic year.
In addition to the ITA academic honor, Diaz was one of this year's 15 recipients of the SDSU Malik Award and was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar. Just last week, the Mountain West Conference also named Diaz and former teammate Jana Buth to their spring list of MW Scholar-Athletes. Additionally, Diaz one of six women's tennis players (also Buth, Magda Aubets, Abbie Mulbarger, Nnena Nadozie and Mia Smith) to earn MW All-Academic status.
