COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Freshman diver Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez of the San Diego State swimming and diving team was named Mountain West Diver of the Week on Tuesday morning. The award marks as Lechuga Gonzalez's first-ever weekly award and SDSU's second of the year, with Delaney Gallagher having won Diver of the Week honors earlier this season.
The Tijuana, Mexico native led SDSU on the diving board in a successful week at the Mizzou Invitational, where the freshman was the only diver in the meet to record top-3 finish scores in both 1-meter and 3-meter competition.
Lechuga Gonzalez finished second in the 3-meter, recording a 308.10 -- the sixth-best score in the Mountain West this season and eighth best in program history.
On the 1-meter board, the freshman recorded a 278.50, finishing third in the meet while recording the 10th best score in the SDSU record book. Both 1-meter and 3-meter scores met the NCAA Zone qualifying standard.
With SDSU having two different divers earn MW Diver of the Week honors, it marks as the first time since the 2007-08 season SDSU has had multiple divers earn a conference weekly award.
SDSU, coming off a third-place finish against a tough field at the Mizzou Invitational, returns home next week, hosting Pepperdine at the Aztec Aquaplex for a dual meet on Friday, Nov. 30 at 3:00 p.m.
