Need to Know
• The Aztecs are back on the road for their next two games. They play at UNLV Saturday at 3:00 p.m. PT and then at Air Force Wednesday evening.
• Both games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network. Additionally, there will be an SDSU audio-only broadcast with Chris Ello (12th season) on the call.
• Saturday's game at UNLV will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center, the site of the Mountain West Championship. The Lady Rebels typically play in the attached Cox Pavilion.
• The Aztecs lost Wednesday evening at home to Fresno State 87-81. It was the second consecutive game where the Aztecs have rallied to tie it up after being down by double-digits in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell short.
• This was the first time the Aztecs have lost when scoring 80 or more points and their first defeat when shooting 50 percent or better from the field. SDSU is now 3-1 in both instances.
• The Aztecs already have more blocks (72) than they did all last season (64). They are 49th in the nation with 4.5 blocks per game.
• Sophomore Najé Murray scored 22 points Wednesday on 7-for-14 shooting, her second time scoring 20 points in the last three games. She is averaging a team-high 16 points in MW play.
• Mallory Adams is averaging 8.2 rebounds per game, the most for an Aztec freshman since Ashlee Dunlap in the 2002-03 season. She is bringing in 9.4 boards per game in conference play.
• Sophia Ramos leads all Mountain West freshmen in points, assists, assist-to-turnover ratio and minutes played. Overall, she is seventh in the conference in scoring and fifth in assists per game.
• SDSU is the only team in the nation with two freshmen averaging at least ten points per game (Sophia Ramos and Mallory Adams).
Noting the Fresno State Game
• This was the second consecutive game where the Aztecs have rallied to tie it up after being down by double-digits in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell short.
• This was the first time the Aztecs have lost when scoring 80 or more points and their first defeat when shooting 50 percent or better from the field. SDSU is now 3-1 in both instances.
• SDSU set a season-high with seven blocks and tied a season-high with 18 assists against the Bulldogs. Kennedi Villa had three blocks after entering the game with zero for her career.
• Fresno State scored 33 points off Aztec turnovers, the most SDSU has allowed this season.
• The Aztecs scored a season-high 24 points in the first quarter. However, the Bulldogs scored 47 first half points, the most SDSU has allowed.
• Fresno State was 22-for-24 from the free throw line. Those are the most an opponent has made or attempted against the Aztecs this season.
• SDSU held Fresno State to 28 rebounds, the fewest an opponent has had against the Aztecs this season.
• Monique Terry had a career-high three assists.
• Aranxta Gómez Ferrer had a season-high five rebounds and started the second half.
• Najé Murray played all 40 minutes, the first time an Aztec has done that this season.
Scouting the Lady Rebels
• UNLV is 5-12 and 3-3 in conference. They were picked to finish second in the MW preseason poll.
• They are coming off an 80-77 overtime loss at New Mexico.
• Prior to that loss, they were on a three game winning streak.
• They are 4-5 at home.
• UNLV is last in the conference in three-pointers made, attempted and percentage.
• The Lady Rebels are third in the conference with a +2.8 rebound margin.
• Katie Powell, a preseason all-conference pick, leads the team in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (6.9).
• Head Coach Kathy Olivier (11th season) was a former All-American at UNLV. She became the Lady Rebels head coach after 15 years at UCLA.
All-Time Series vs. Lady Rebels
• UNLV leads the all-time series 29-28
• The Lady Rebels won both meetings last year, including an OT win in Las Vegas.
• SDSU is 10-20 on the road against UNLV.
• UNLV has won the last three meetings, but prior to that SDSU has won 16 of 21.
• They first met February 2, 1979, a 78-58 UNLV win.
Fab Frosh
Mallory Adams
• Mallory Adams is averaging 8.2 rebounds per game, the most for an Aztec freshman since Ashlee Dunlap in the 2002-03 season. She is bringing in 9.4 boards per game in conference play.
• Mallory Adams is one of nine true freshmen nationally to average 10 points and eight rebounds per game.
• She leads the Mountain West in rebounding for freshmen.
• She is top ten in the nation in free throws made and attempted per game among true freshmen.
• Mallory Adams set a career-high with 13 rebounds at New Mexico two weeks ago.
• Adams has four double-doubles on the year. She has brought in nine rebounds or more in nine of her last 13 games. She has seven games with 10 or more rebounds.
• Adams had 10 or more rebounds in three straight games earlier this year. The last Aztec to do that was SDSU legend and current pro Chelsea Hopkins, who did it in the 2011-12 season.
• Adams averaged a double-double at the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Sophia Ramos
• Sophia Ramos leads the Aztecs in scoring with 14.8 points per game, this is seventh in the conference and best among freshmen.
• Ramos is the only true freshman in the nation averaging at least 14 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
• She leads all freshmen in the Mountain West in points, assists, assist-to-turnover ratio and minutes.
• She is third in the conference with am .813 free throw percentage
• Sophia Ramos scored a career-high 28 points at CSUN (12-9-18) with seven three-pointers including six in the fourth quarter.
• Her 28 points and 10 made field goals in that game were the most by an Aztec this season.
• Her seven three-pointers tie her for the second most in school history and her she became the first Aztec to hit six three-pointers in a quarter
• Despite being 5'9", she is second on the team in rebounds (4.8 per game). She had a career-high 10 vs. Arizona (12-2-18).
Earning it at the Line
• The Aztecs lead are second in the conference in made free throws and third in attempts.
• Mallory Adams leads the conference in made free throws and is top ten in the nation in free throws made and attempted per game among true freshmen.
• The Aztecs are up to fourth in the conference in free throw percentage.
Block Party
• The Aztecs are third in the conference in blocked shots per game.
• They have already eclipsed their total for blocks from last year (75-64).
• Zayn Dornstauder is second in the conference with 1.50 blocks per game.
Youth Movement
• SDSU is the only team in the nation with two freshmen averaging at least ten points per game (Sophia Ramos and Mallory Adams).
• The Aztecs started two freshmen, two sophomores and one junior in the season opener against Hawai'i. That group had a combined 33 career starts entering the game.
• The freshmen duo of Sophia Ramos and Mallory Adams earned the starting nod in the season opener, marking the first time two freshmen started the season opener for the Aztecs since 2003 (Michelle Elliott and Courtney Fritz).
