San Diego State, winners of four consecutive games and seven of its last eight, continues a challenging stretch of games on Saturday evening when the Aztecs play at UNLV. The Rebels have won their last three games and four of its last five contests.
San Diego State's Silver State week concludes with the UNLV game Saturday. On Wednesday the Aztecs defeated No. 6/6 Nevada, 65-57.
Saturday's head coaches - Brian Dutcher and Marvin Menzies - are two of three current Mountain West head coaches who served as assistant coaches under Steve Fisher at San Diego State.
Menzies served with Fisher and Dutcher as an assistant for their first four seasons at SDSU (from 1999-00 through 2002-03).
The Aztecs and Rebels will meet for the 71st time in series history with the Rebels owning a 36-34 series lead. The Aztecs once trailed the series, 26-6, (SDSU is 28-10 since that time).
San Diego State has won 13 of the last 14 games played between the teams (regardless of location, +12.2 scoring margin).
Dutcher has been on the SDSU sidelines for 30 of SDSU's 34 victories in the series. Those 30 wins have come against eight different UNLV head coaches (Bill Bayno, Max Good, Charlie Spoonhour, Jay Spoonhour, Lon Kruger, Dave Rice, Todd Simon and Marvin Menzies).
Since Jan. 26, 2019, only New Mexico State (8) has won more games than San Diego State's seven (11 other teams are tied with the Aztecs including Duke, Kentucky and Tennessee).
The Aztecs are 7-1 vs. UNLV in the Thomas & Mack Center since March 5, 2014. That is the most victories by a visiting team vs. the Rebels during that span (Nevada is second with five).
Since Jan. 1, 2013, San Diego State owns a 14-6 record against the Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center. The rest of the country is 53-195 at UNLV.
Last time out, San Diego State defeated No. 6/6 Nevada, 65-57, at Viejas Arena. The victory marked the highest-ranked team the Aztecs have defeated in school history.
Senior guard Devin Watson led the Aztecs (or tied for the lead) in scoring for the fourth straight game and the sixth time in the last seven outings with 15 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
