Aztec Storylines
TIME CHANGES: Due to the expected forecast in Colorado Springs, all three games have been moved up one hour. Weather updates can be found either on Twitter @SDSUBaseball or on GoAztecs.com.
TIME FOR MOUNTAIN WEST PLAY: The Aztecs enter 2019 as the only team in the Mountain West to have won each of their last two conference-opening series. Last season, the Aztecs beat San Jose State twice in a rain-shortened series in San Jose.
AGAINST AIR FORCE: The Aztecs enter this weekend with 108 all-time wins against the Falcons, good for the second most against any other program (New Mexico, 114). SDSU is 18-7 in their last 25 meetings against Air Force.
In addition, SDSU has averaged 9.8 runs per game in their last eight games at Air Force.
HEADING OUT: SDSU plays its first road games of the year this weekend and have won four of their last six road-schedule opening games.
COULD BE COLD: With temperatures expected to dip below freezing with chances of snow in Colorado Springs this weekend, Friday will mark as the earliest game SDSU has ever played at Air Force.
Before this year, SDSU had never played at Air Force before March 19.
THROUGH EIGHT: San Diego State enters this weekend with a 5-3 record, with all three losses coming by two runs or less. All eight of SDSU's games have been played at home, which marks as SDSU's longest homestand of the 2019 season.
A RECAP OF THE LEGACY: SDSU put on a 2-1 performance in the fourth annual Tony Gwynn Legacy, matching last year's 2-1 showing as the Aztecs' best record in the San Diego-based tournament.
The Aztecs held off a late rally by Utah as Matt Rudick hit a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth just before Casey Schmitt go out of a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the ninth to preserve the 1-run win.
SDSU was shut out for just the third time in the last 68 games against Oklahoma in a 1-0 loss.
SDSU quickly erased a 3-0 deficit against Kansas State, ultimately using a eight-run sixth inning highlighted by a Chad Bible 3-RBI double to take the lead. Justin Goossen-Brown, making his third appearance of the week, earned the win with three innings of shutout, one-hit relief.
STRIKEOUTS GALORE: San Diego State started the season with six consecutive games with 12 or more strikeouts, marking the longest such streak for the Aztecs since at least 2000. The Aztecs currently rank 11th in the nation with 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings this season, while Logan Boyer is 32nd in the country with 17 strikeouts (also a Moutain West-best).
THE STARTING PITCHING HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD: SDSU starters this season have combined for a 2.45 earned run average over 33 innings pitched this season. In addition, SDSU starters have collectively struck out 36 batters while owning a .175 opponent batting average.
FUN WITH TWO: The Aztecs have scored 29 of their 46 runs this year with two outs and as a team are hitting .321 (25-for-78) with two outs.
CALIFORNIA LOVE: Since 2014, the Aztecs lead all Division I California programs in win total. Also, over that span, SDSU is 97-46 (.682) when playing in-state counterparts.
