SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's tennis team has earned the third seed in the 2019 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship, hosted by the Aztecs this Wednesday through Saturday, April 24-27, at the Aztec Tennis Center. As the No. 3 seed, the Aztecs skip the play-in matches on Wednesday and are set to face the winner of sixth-seeded Colorado State and 1th-seeded Nevada in Thursday's quarterfinals at 2 p.m.

The winner of Thursday's quarterfinal No. 4 will continue on to play the winner of quarterfinal three ([2] Air Force vs. [7] Utah State or [10] Boise State) in semifinal two on Friday at 2 p.m. PT. Saturday's championship match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Scarlet and Black finished the regular season with a 13-9 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play, winning five of its last seven matchups. The Aztecs claimed a win over one of its two potential quarterfinal opponents during the regular season, topping Nevada 4-2 in Reno. SDSU was scheduled to play sixth seed Colorado State on March 21, but the match was cancelled due to heavy rain on the Mesa.

The San Diego State sophomore class impressed throughout the regular season as Nnena Nadozie and Abbie Mulbarger combined for a 26-8 record in singles action. Nadozie led the team with a total of 14 singles wins in dual match play, finishing regular-season play with five straight, while Mulbarger captured the longest win streak with six straight victories heading into conference tournament action.

Nadozie also teamed up with newcomer Alicia Melosch for a team-high nine doubles wins this season. The duo emerged on the ITA national rankings at No. 77 following the team's win over conference foe Fresno State on March 29, and kept a spot on that list for the remainder of the regular season.

Colorado State (10-9, 2-4 MW) finished the season winning two straight, first with a 5-2 victory at Northern Colorado and finally a 4-2 win at Wyoming. Prior to the cancelled match at SDSU in March, the Rams have not played the Aztecs since the 2012-13 season, when the teams met during the regular season (SDSU won 6-0) and at the conference tournament (SDSU won 4-0 in the quarterfinals).

Nevada finished its regular season with a 10-10, 1-3 MW record and dropped four of its last six matchups of the season. The Wolf Pack played the same set of conference opponents as the Aztecs, dropping their match to the Scarlet and Black as well as the duals against UNLV (4-0) and Fresno State (4-0), but edged San Jose State, 4-3, to finish the regular season.

This marks the first the time the Aztecs have earned the third seed or better since the 2013-14 season, when third-seeded SDSU beat sixth-seeded San Jose State in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals, where the team fell to No. 2 seed New Mexico, 4-2. Last season, the fourth-seeded Aztecs fell to fifth seed Wyoming in the quarterfinal round, 4-1.
