SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis head coach Peter Mattera announced today that Tamara Arnold has accepted an offer-of-aid to join the team in the fall of 2019. The transfer from Oklahoma State will compete with the Aztecs as a junior this fall.

"We are very excited to have Tammy Arnold join us for the upcoming season," Mattera said. "She is a proven winner, as indicated by her tremendous success at both Tyler Junior College and at Oklahoma State University. She is a very high-energy player and person, and I know that she is going to have a very positive impact on our program and the University."

A native of Olten, Switzerland, Arnold joins the team after helping the Cowgirls log a 21-8 record (8-1 Big 12) for the 2018-19 season and earn a trip to the Sweet 16 of the 2019 NCAA Tournament ranked as the No. 15 team in the nation.

Arnold played as a freshman for Tyler Junior College where she was not only the team's top-ranked player throughout the 2017-18 season, but also finished the year ranked as the ITA's No. 1 Junior College women's player. She was also awarded ITA Junior College Rookie of the Year in 2018 following the Apaches' 13-1 season.

In addition to her collegiate accolades, Arnold had a successful junior tennis career, advancing to the quarterfinals in doubles at the 2013 European Youth Olympic Games in Utrecht, Netherlands, and was a three-time Swiss National Champion (U12, U14, U16).

Arnold joins an Aztec women's tennis program that finished as the runner-up in the 2019 Mountain West Conference Championship and had three student-athletes named to the all-conference squad. The program has seen years of success on the court and in the classroom, boasting 11 conference championship seasons, 80 academic all-MW conference awards and three Academic All-Americans during Mattera's time as head coach.
