SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team cruised to an 84-52 win over the University of Regina in an exhibition contest Sunday at Viejas Arena.
Four Aztecs finished in double-digits and they were led by Regina native Zayn Dornstauder, who scored 16 points on 5-for-6 shooting in just 13 minutes. Sophia Ramos had 14 points, a team-high seven assists and zero turnovers. Baylee Vanderdoes (11) and Mallory Adams (10) also scored in double-digits. Adams led the team with seven rebounds.
SDSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening minute and held the lead for the remainder of the game. They shot 53 percent from the field in the first quarter and then 50 percent in the second and were led by Dornstauder's 12 first half points as they took a 47-31 lead at the half.
The Cougars scored the first bucket of the second half, but the Aztecs responded with a 16-0 run over the next four minutes to extend their lead to 30 points.
Sophia Ramos had a team-high eight points in the second half on 3-for-3 shooting.
The Aztecs held Regina to 32 shooting from the field and 28 percent from three-point territory. The Cougars were led by Faith Reid's 14 points.
SDSU committed just eight turnovers and outscored Regina in paint points 54-14.
STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs shot at least 50 percent in each of the first three quarters and outscored the Cougars in every quarter.
THE NOTE I
Three Aztecs made their SDSU debut: freshmen Isabela Hernandez and Talia Sireni and Oregon State transfer Taylor Kalmer. Hernandez and Kalmer each scored eight points and had three rebounds. Sireni collected two rebounds in five minutes.

All 13 Aztecs played and 11 scored.
