SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis junior Nnena Nadozie earned national recognition by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Wednesday, Nov. 13. Nadozie was ranked No. 113 on the 2019 Oracle ITA Division I Women's Singles Rankings, which designates the top 125 national singles players in the NCAA.

With the nod, the junior became the first Aztec to earn singles ranking since the 2015-16 season, when Tamitha Nguyen was ranked No. 121 in the 2016 ITA Division I Women's Singles Rankings announced Feb. 23, 2016. Nadozie posted a nearly perfect fall campaign, winning eight of her nine singles' matches. Her wins included topping preseason No. 87 Sara Choy from Stanford 7-6 (5), 7-5 at the SDSU Fall Classic II, Nov. 9, and besting preseason No. 96 Anna Riedmiller from the University of Denver 6-2, 6-1 at the same tournament, Nov. 10.

"I am really excited for Nnena to be getting some well-deserved national recognition," noted head women's tennis coach Peter Mattera. "Nnena has worked extremely hard to get to the level that she is currently and she, as well as the rest of the team, have had a great fall campaign. We are all looking forward very much to the spring dual match season."

The Aztecs start up 2020 dual action when they take on UC Riverside Jan. 25 at the Aztec Tennis Center. The match is set to begin at noon.
