Head coach Brian Dutcher
Opening Statement
We enjoyed a quick Christmas break and we're ready to get into action tomorrow against Cal Poly. I always tell the team that the team we're watching (on film) is not the team you are going to see. That is one of the good things about being undefeated; we are going to see everyone's best effort, because they want to be the one to put the first "L" on us. So, we'll see an inspired Cal Poly team. We've had two good days of practice and we will be ready tomorrow afternoon.
The coaching staff has done a real good job getting the guys moving forward again. We practiced Christmas night and had a couple of guys who were late, but that is why we did it. We know that travel is always an issue this time of the year. Yesterday's practice was good and today we will have another spirited practice. We will get our game legs back underneath us and start a new year with Aztec basketball
Senior forward Yanni Wetzell
On returning to practice after a couple of days off:
You always want to finish the break coming back after a win. It was nice that we had a convincing win and I thought we played well on both ends of the floor and obviously when you have a few days off you don't want to have to dwell on a poor performance. So, it was nice that we had a good win and could enjoy our break.
On what is was like to play in STAPLES Center:
Obviously, you grow up watching the greats play in that arena. It was awesome being on that floor and we executed our stuff to a "T" from start to finish so it was a good performance overall.
Junior guard Malachi Flynn
On returning to practice after a couple of days off:
It was a nice thing to get the win and then go home and visit your family a bit and now come right back to it and continue to win and build on that. We just can't get lackadaisical in practice. We have to keep moving forward.
