SAN DIEGO – San Diego State junior guard Malachi Flynn has been named a second-team mid-season All-American by the Sporting News.  The Tacoma, Wash., is averaging 16.6 points while shooting 45.2 percent from the field (99-of-219), including 41.2 percent from three-point range (40-of-97) and 82.4 percent from the line (61-of-74).  In addition, he is averaging 4.9 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

Flynn was selected the Mountain West's preseason Newcomer of the Year and recently was named both the John R. Wooden and Lute Olson mid-season Watch List's.  He is No. 10 in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.03:1) and ranks in the top 100 in assists (No. 45 – 88), assists per game (No. 65 – 4.9), points (No. 82 – 299) and steals (No. 84 – 30).  In the Mountain West he leads the league in assist-to-turnover ratio and assists per game and is second in steals and assists while averaging 16.6 points per game, seventh best in the league.

Earlier in the season, Flynn earned the Most Valuable Player awards at both the Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational and the Air Force Reserve Basketball Hall of Fame Classic.  He has led the No. 7/6 Aztecs, the only team in the nation to have yet to suffer a defeat, to an 18-0 record.  He is the only player from the Mountain West to be included on the list and just one of four players from a non-Power-5 conference to be either a first or second-team honoree.

San Diego State hosts Nevada on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Viejas Arena.  The game is a sellout and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
