SAN DIEGO – San Diego State sophomore diver Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez was selected Mountain West Diver of the Week for the period ending Jan. 27, the conference office announced Tuesday. With her third selection, the sophomore now owns the most weekly conference selections by any swimmer or diver this season.
The sophomore standout broke two school records with her performances against University of San Diego Friday, Jan. 24 as the Aztecs closed out their dual meet season with a 153-128 victory over the Toreros on senior day. Lechuga Gonzalez set the Aztec Aquaplex pool and San Diego State program record for best 3-meter diving performance, topping all divers with a first-place score of 383.03. Additionally, her mark sits as the top performance this season by any Mountain West diver.
She followed by breaking her own school record in the 1-meter dive, collecting a score of 327.15 to bring home her second gold medal of the day. Her 1-meter effort also ranks as the best performance seen in the conference throughout the 2019-20 season.
The Aztecs' divers head to one final competition before postseason action when they travel to the Northern Arizona Diving Invitational #2 in Flagstaff, Ariz. Friday, Jan. 31through Saturday Feb. 1.
