FEDERAL WAY, Wash.– San Diego State's diving team concluded competition at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships Wednesday, contesting in the platform dive at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
For the third consecutive day, sophomore Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez competed in the event's final rounds. The Tijuana, Mexico native finished 18th in prelims with a score of 216.85, and bettered her morning's performance in the finals, placing 13th overall with a combined score of 456.55 (finals score of 239.70 points).
Senior Marie Yacopino also competed alongside Lechuga Gonzalez in the finals after placing 17th in the prelims with a 217.20 point-performance. The senior held her position after the final rounds, earning 17th overall with a combined score of 428.10 (finals score of 210.90).
Additionally, senior Delaney Gallagher, junior Erica Sarver and sophomores Gina Cazares, Gillian Garcia and Lexi Letts each competed in prelims. Sarver finished just three places shy of continuing onto the finals, placing 21st with a score of 211.80. Gallagher, Cazares, Letts, and Garcia placed 23rd, 26th, 31st, and 34th with scores of 205.70, 203.20, 185.85, and 171.90, respectively.
Gonzalez and the Aztecs' swimming qualifiers now prep for the NCAA Championships held March 18-21 in Athens, Ga.
