FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – San Diego State sophomore diver Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez continued her success at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships, qualifying to compete on the 3-meter springboard at the NCAA Championships March 18-21 with her fourth-place performance Tuesday at the King County Aquatic Center.
The Tijuana, Mexico native opened her day with a fourth-place effort in the preliminary rounds, breaking the 300-point barrier and earning a score of 316.05. In the finals, Lechuga Gonzalez bettered her morning's effort, scoring a 329.55 for a total combined score of 645.60.
All of SDSU's divers competed on the 3-meter springboard Tuesday, with the Aztecs' next-best performance coming from senior Marie Yacopino, who finished 22nd in prelims with a score of 259.70. She was followed by sophomore Lexi Letts who placed 34th with a score of 234.00.
Fellow sophomore Gillian Garcia, junior Erica Sarver, senior Delaney Gallagher and sophomore Gina Cazares placed 40th, 42nd, 45th, and 48th with scores of 218.30, 217.65, 210.00, and 193.55, respectively.
The Aztecs step on the board again tomorrow to compete on the platform dive. Prelims are set to begin at 11 a.m.
