SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Four members of the Aztec men's soccer team were named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll, the conference office announced. Arturo Chavez, Mac Clarke, Laukoa Santos and Max Watkin received recognition for their academic prowess.
In 2019, the Pac-12 Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs) changed the all-academic selection process, moving from all-academic teams to an Academic Honor Roll. Any student-athlete with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or above and who has served at least one year in residence at the institution is eligible to receive all-academic honors.
"I couldn't be prouder of these four for their hard work in the classroom," head coach Ryan Hopkins said. "I look forward to many more selections as we continue to pursue the highest honors on and off the field."
Clarke, a team captain, stared 16 matches on the back line and was third on the team in minutes played. He has a 3.33 GPA as a political science major, and this is his third time being honored for his academics by the Pac-12. Clarke was an honorable mention selection in 2016 and 2018.
Santos also earned his second consecutive academic honor after finished the fall semester with a 3.38 cumulative GPA as a business administration major.
Chavez and Watkin earned their first academic honor from the conference. Chavez holds a 3.37 GPA as a business administration major and appeared in 17 matches and made 11 starts. Watkin made 12 starts in goal for the Aztecs and posted a 3.34 GPA as a communication major.
