COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four members of the San Diego State women's tennis team have been named to the all-Mountain West team, the conference announced Thursday. Freshman Cécile Morin was named Co-Freshman of the Year, junior Nnena Nadozie made the all-singles squad and fellow junior Tamara Arnold was selected to the all-singles squad. Arnold also earned all-doubles recognition alongside her doubles partner, freshman Julia Jordan.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spring play was suspended for the Aztecs after just 11 dual matches. While SDSU did not officially start Mountain West play, the conference still honored student-athletes for their efforts throughout their entire spring season without a minimum match requirement.
Nadozie earns her second consecutive all-singles honor while Arnold, Jordan, and Morin each receive all-conference recognition for the first time in their careers. This marks the second consecutive Freshman of the Year honor for an Aztec and third total in program history.
Morin totaled a 6-4 record in spring play where she saw time at both the No. 4 and No. 5 position. The freshman tallied notable singles wins over players from then No. 22 USC, University of Hawaii, Cal State Fullerton and Grand Canyon University. Throughout her first season on The Mesa, Morin tallied the second-best overall win percentage (counting both fall and spring play) by a freshman in the Mountain West (.750).
Nadozie had a stellar junior campaign tabbing an 8-2 singles record, playing primarily at the No. 2 position. Her only two losses of the season came against ITA/ Oracle Top-25 ranked players from autonomous 5 programs. The junior was undefeated when playing at the No. 2 singles position and recorded the second-best overall win percentage by a MW player this season (.842).
In singles play, Arnold controlled the competition as the Aztecs' primary No. 1 seed, boasting a 6-3 record in singles play throughout 2019-20. Throughout her first season donning the Scarlet and Black, Arnold topped then-ranked No. 22 USC's Eryn Cayetano in the Aztecs' close match with the Trojans, losing 4-3. Cayetano ended the season with a 9-3 record and ranked No. 44 in the nation with her other two losses coming against Top-150 ranked opponents.
In doubles play, Arnold and freshman Julia Jordan decisively dominated opponents at the No. 2 doubles position, tabbing a 7-3 record in spring doubles play. The duo collected notable wins in the Aztecs' duals with No. 22 USC, Hawaii, Grand Canyon and Cal Poly, and finished the season with the fourth-best win percentage by a conference doubles team (.706).
