ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Recent San Diego State graduate Fernanda Escauriza advanced to match play at the 2020 U.S. Women's Amateur Wednesday at Woodmont Country Club (North Course) in Rockville, Md.
An Asunción, Paraguay, native, Escauriza tied for 18th in stroke play, carding a 2-over 146 on the par-72, 6,561-yard course. The 2019 South American Amateur champion fired a 3-under 69 on Monday in the opening round before settling for a 5-over 77 Wednesday after Tuesday's competition was postponed due to the fallout from Hurricane Isaias.
Escauriza will face Auburn's Megan Schofill in the Round of 64 at 2:20 p.m. ET Thursday. Should Escauriza beat Schofill, who shot a 4-over 148 (69-79) in stroke play, she would advance to the round of 32, which will take place Friday along with the round of 16.
While at SDSU, Escauriza was the 2016-17 Mountain West individual champion, the 2016-17 MW Freshman of the Year and a two-time second-team all-MW pick (2016-17 and 2018-19).
