WOODLAND, Calif. – Twenty-three members of the San Diego State Lacrosse team were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic team, the conference's executive director Al Beaird announced Monday.
The Aztecs led the league with 23 selections, followed by 2021 MPSF Champion UC Davis with 20 honorees while Fresno State garnered 12 representatives.
To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.00-or-better cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, and completed one full academic year at their institution before the season in which they receive the award. Due to the unique nature of this season, there was no participation requirement for this year's awardees.
The 23 SDSU student-athletes who earned this distinguished honor, listed in alphabetical order by last name, are Hayley Anderson, Maya Banks, Bailey Brown, Erin Cady, Avery Dyer, Gabbie Garrison, Lindsey Gierke, Shelby Hook, Sam Horan, Caitlin Jones, Annie Jubb, Lauren Kilger, Maggie Marion, Katelyn Murphy, Makenna Nichols, Madison Nunziata, Camdyn O'Donnell, Emily Resnick, Courtney Robinson, Addie Schmidt, Julia Sheehan, Taylor Sullivan, and Cailin Young.
Sullivan earns the honor for the fourth consecutive season while Sheehan records her third all-academic selection. Brown and Young each collect the award for the second time in their careers.
Brown, Garrison, Hook, and Resnick add to their 2021 awards list, each named to the all-conference squad back in April. Jones records her second postseason honor, named to the MPSF All-Conference Tournament team for her performance in the Aztecs' semifinal matchup with Fresno State.
Murphy led all conference honorees with a 3.97 GPA, earning all-academic status for the first time in her young career. Young recorded the second-highest GPA of all student-athletes awarded with a 3.88 GPA.
The Aztecs' 2021 season included the program's first-ever win over the University of Southern California and four wins over Pac-12 programs.
