NEW ORLEANS – Five members of the Aztec track and field team were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team, one shy of the program record set last season. Additionally, the entire team was honored for having a cumulative GPA above 3.0 (3.26).

Jade Cany, Nyjari McNeil. Jada Moore, Asia Smith and Aisha Watt were recognized for their performance in the classroom. To earn USTFCCCA all-academic recognition, student-athletes must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and have finished the season in the top 48 in their region. It is the third time McNeil has won the award and second time for Smith.

McNeil (Reistertown, Md.) owns a 3.69 cumulative GPA as a kinesiology (fitness specialist) major and won the gold medal in the 800-meter and 4x400m relay at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships.

Smith (Escondido, Calif.) was honored for the second consecutive year. The 2020-21 SAAC President and SDSU Female Student-Athlete of the Year, Smith graduated with a 3.33 cumulative GPA (communications) and finished fourth in the heptathlon at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships.

Jade Cany (San Diego, Calif.) holds a 3.51 cumulative GPA as an international business major. She cleared 5-09.75 in the high jump at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, the fourth-best mark in school history.

Jada Moore (St. Louis, Mo.) won gold medals in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and in the 4x100m relay at the conference championships and helped the Aztecs' 4x100 team make the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She also set the outdoor freshman records in the 100 (11.48) and 200 (23.11). She has a 3.63 cumulative GPA and is majoring in kinesiology.

Aisha Watt (Seattle, Wash.) was on the 4x100m relay team that made the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She also had top ten finishes in the 100 and 200meter dashes at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships. Also, a kinesiology major, she has a 3.38 cumulative GPA.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

For the indoor season: must have finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, for the most recent indoor season, certifiable by their place on final season performance lists on TFRRS for Indoor Track and Field (including performances achieved outside the qualifying window during the indoor season).

For the outdoor season: must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships (the Preliminary Championship Competition and/or the Final Championship Competition) or for the multi-events, must have finished the season ranked in the top 48 in the East or top 48 in the West for the most recent outdoor season, certifiable by their place on the NCAA Division I descending order lists on TFRRS for Outdoor Track and Field.
