NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Former San Diego State lacrosse players Emily Resnick and Julia Sheehan alongside then-juniors Courtney Robinson and Cailin Young were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll for the 2020-21 school year, the organization announced recently. In addition, the Aztecs were one of 319 teams across Division I, II, III and the NAIA recognized as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad.

Each of the four Aztecs received the honor roll award for the first time in their collegiate careers. Additionally, all four Aztecs receiving the IWLCA honor were also named to the MPSF All-Academic squad in late May.

To be eligible for IWLCA academic honor roll consideration, individual candidates must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. A total of 862 student-athletes from 103 different institutions were honored as a part of the 2020-21 honor roll.

Resnick capped off her two-year stint with the Aztecs in 2021, finishing her time donning the Scarlet and Black with a team-leading 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists), 16 ground balls, five caused turnovers and 18 draw controls throughout the season. She concluded the 2021 campaign ranked fourth in the conference in total points and third in the MPSF for assists accrued. Resnick marked her spot in SDSU Lacrosse history in her final collegiate season, graduating with programs records for the most assists in a single game (5), the second-most assists in a season (23) and the third-most assists in an Aztec's career (33).

Sheehan concluded her Aztec career with a fantastic 2021 season, scoring 11 goals while adding 10 assists, 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers. She scored three points on five occasions throughout the season, including two goals and an assist in SDSU's nail-biting win at California (Feb. 28). The two-time team captain graduated recording her collegiate-best marks for points in a season (21) and goals in a season (11) while collecting the second-most assists by an Aztec in the 2021 campaign.

Robinson saw action in all 14 games throughout SDSU's 2021 season, earning six starts and scoring five goals while collecting one assist, 10 ground balls, three caused turnovers and 13 draw controls. She tallied three goals at California while adding a ground ball and a draw control, leading to MPSF Offensive Player of the Week honors (Feb. 28). The then-junior was an intricate part of the Aztecs' historic win over USC, securing four ground balls throughout the matchup.

Young competed in 12 of the Aztecs' 14 games in 2021, starting in nine of those matchups. In total, she scored 10 goals while collecting seven ground balls, eight caused turnovers and 29 draw controls during her junior campaign. She had multi-goal games in SDSU's matchups with Oregon (Feb. 19), California (Feb. 28), and Coastal Carolina (March 27). Off the field, the junior recorded the second-highest GPA of any conference student-athlete named to the MPSF All-Academic squad.

San Diego State was designated an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the fifth time in program history (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021) and for the second consecutive season (honor was not awarded during the 2020 season) after recording a team GPA above the 3.0 prerequisite last year.

The Aztecs' 2021 season included the program's first-ever win over the University of Southern California and four wins over Pac-12 programs. For their efforts, the team had six all-conference selections and two members selected to the MPSF All-Tournament squad. Their success off the field included 23 selections to the MPSF All-Academic squad.
