BERKELEY, Calif. – San Diego State's Tamara Arnold, Nnena Nadozie, Regina Pitts, and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat completed day one of competition at the Cal Fall Invitational hosted by the University of California, Berkeley Friday.
In doubles play, the duo of Arnold and Thamchaiwat topped Harris/Hovda of Saint Mary's 8-3. Nadozie and Pitts competed against UC Davis' Stavropolous/Zell and won their match 8-6. Both duos move on to the round of eight tomorrow
In singles play, Arnold topped BYU's Abramyan 6-1, 6-2 in the blue singles round of 32. Following her win, Arnold took on Saint Mary's Harris in the round of 16 and earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory. In the same draw, Thamchaiwat beat UC Davis' Tsukamoto 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 32 and then topped USF's Vaquero 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
In the white draw, Pitts had a first-round bye and then took on Saint Mary's Massey and won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16. In the round of 32, Nadozie took on Saint Mary's Tevez but after a first set win, retired in the third set for a final score of 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 (ret.).
