SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis player Bunyawi Thamchaiwat earned a selection to the Main Draw of the 2021 ITA Women's All-American Championships by LTP, the association announced Tuesday. The prestigious event will take place in Charleston, South Carolina from Oct. 4-10, 2021.
Thamchaiwat is one of just five student-athletes competing in the main draw from a non-autonomous five school and earned her selection based on her 2020 season in which she earned ITA All-American honors.
"It is great for Bunyawi to be a part of this very prestigious event and to be honored as one of the best in all of women's college tennis," head coach Peter Mattera noted. "We are very proud to have her represent San Diego State Women's Tennis as we kick off the 2021-22 season."
Thamchaiwat returns to the collegiate tennis scene after a 2020 All-American season at Oklahoma State. In her final year as a Cowgirl, she became just the second player in Oklahoma State history to be crowned Big 12 Player of the Year. The Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand native finished the season with a 12-2 singles record, including a 1-0 record over nationally-ranked opponents.
Competing in the main draw are 32 players, including 12 regional representatives, eight qualifiers, eight returning ITA All-Americans, 1 ITA National Summer Championships Champion, 1 Host Institution Wild Card, 1 ITA Wild Card, and 1 Tulsa Wild Card.
Thamchaiwat will kick off competition on Wednesday, Oct. 6 in the main draw singles round of 32. Results of her matches will be posted on GoAztecs.com.
