SAN DIEGO – San Diego State senior women's tennis player Tamara Arnold has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Arnold helped lead the Aztecs to a pair of victories on the opening weekend of play as San Diego State defeated Sacramento State, 6-1, and UC Riverside, 4-0. The senior posted a pair of straight-set victories in singles play and went 2-0 in doubles action.
In the season opener last Friday against the Hornets, the Olten, Switzerland native posted a 6-2, 6-3 singles win on court two and teamed up with Bunyawi Thamchaiwat to record a 6-0 decision at number one doubles.
The next day, versus the Highlanders, Arnold moved up to the number one spot in the singles lineup and was a 6-1, 6-2 victor. She joined forces with Julian Jordan at number two doubles to win a pivotal match, 6-3, helping the Aztecs secure the doubles point.
This is the 34th time in program history that a San Diego State student-athlete has earned this award, but Arnold becomes the first Aztecs student-athlete to receive the honor since Jana Buth claimed earned the distinction on April 4, 2018.
San Diego State (2-0) is back in action this Saturday when the Aztecs play host to UC San Diego (1-2) at the Aztec Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at noon PT and admission is free.
