Aztecs Celebrate Title IX This WeekendAztecs Celebrate Title IX This Weekend

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State water polo team returns to the friendly confines of the Aztec Aquaplex this weekend, where it has a 5-1 record this year, for a single game on Friday and then hosts the Aztec Mini Invite 2 on Saturday which will feature three contests and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX prior to the team's game against Santa Clara.

Carla Gilmore and Kristy Fraijo, who played club water polo at San Diego State in the 1980s and 1990s and are the program's Title IX ambassadors, pushed women's water polo forward and showed others what was possible simply by playing a game that women did not have the opportunity to play at the collegiate level before it was elevated to a  varsity sport. These women paved the way for athletes who have followed in their footsteps and they will be honored prior to the game.
