SAN DIEGO – Eight San Diego State divers are set to compete in the 2022 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at the Wall Aquatic Center on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz., from March 7-9.

On Monday, March 7, the women will contest the 1-meter springboard. Tuesday, March 8, features the 3-meter springboard and the meet wraps up on Wednesday, March 9, with the platform competition. Prelims for each day start at 11:30 a.m. PT with the finals to immediately follow.

San Diego State will be represented by Gina Cazares, Emma Duggan, Gillian Garcia, Jules Harrison, Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez, Lexi Letts, Valentina Lopez Arevalo and Summer Westmoreland.

Lechuga Gonzalez, Letts and Cazares have competed in the Zone E Diving Championships in each of their three seasons on The Mesa.

Lechuga Gonzalez has reached the finals in all nine Zone E competitions in her three years as an Aztec and has advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of the last two years. Letts' best result is a 23rd place finish in last year's 3-meter competition and Cazares' best result also came last year with a 15th place finish in the platform competition.

Garcia qualified for the Zone E Championships in 2020 with her best placing being a 34th in the platform competition. Duggan, Harrison, Lopez Arevalo and Westmoreland will be competing for the first time in the Zone E Championships.

The top five female and top four male divers from each event at their respective zone championship automatically qualify for NCAA Championships, and then each zone earns an additional number of qualifying spots in each event based on how that zone performed at last season's NCAA Championships.

Zone E had two divers finish in the top 16 on 1-meter springboard at the 2021 NCAA Women's Championships. Therefore, the top seven divers (5+2) in that event at Zone E will qualify for NCAA Championships. In addition, nine platform and five 3-meter springboard divers will qualify for the NCAA Championships from Zone E.

In addition to San Diego State, Air Force, Arizona, Arizona State, Brigham Young, Cal Poly, Denver, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico State, Pepperdine, San Diego, Southern California, Stanford, UCLA, UNLV, Utah, and Wyoming will be competing in the Zone E Championships.

Each day's competition will be live streamed and live scoring will also be available through links at goaztecs.com.
