NEW YORK – The Aztec lacrosse team (5-6) won at Columbia (2-8), 20-6 on Saturday afternoon. SDSU had eight different players score and their six goals allowed is tied for the fewest an opponent has scored against them this season.
 
Columbia got on the board first, scoring early on in the first quarter, before Mia Kohn drew the Aztecs level, just over five minutes into the game. The Aztecs took their first lead of the game 45 seconds later when Courtney Robinson found the back of the net to give SDSU an early 2-1 lead. The Aztecs would pile on three more goals in the first quarter to take a 5-3 lead at the end of the quarter.
 
Columbia got within a goal early in the second period when they made it 5-4, but then the Aztecs scored four unanswered in 1:03 to take a 9-4 lead halfway through the second quarter. The Aztecs continued the barrage, scoring five more goals in the second period, as part of a 10-0 run in the quarter to take a 14-4 lead at the half.
 
The Aztecs defense stood tall in the third quarter, and continued their stalwart defensive game, by not allowing a single goal in the quarter. The Aztecs also tacked on two more goals to take a 16-4 lead at the end of the quarter. By not allowing a goal in the third quarter the Aztecs held Columbia scoreless for 26:17 heading into the fourth quarter. 
 
San Diego State improved their scoring run to 12-0 and made it a 17-4 lead when Kohn scored her fourth goal of the game, a new career-high for her. Columbia ended the scoring run with a goal at the 8:14 mark of the fourth quarter to make it a 17-5 contest. SDSU therefore held Columbia scoreless for over 30 straight minutes between goals, as the Aztecs defense stood tall all game. The Aztecs would add three more goals late on to close out the match 20-6.   
 
Robinson finished the game with a career-high in goals with four, while Deanna Balsama and Kohn also had four goals each to lead all SDSU scorers.  Balsama finished the game with three assists as well, recording seven total points on the day, tops amongst all players. Brook Waddell also put in a shift for the Aztecs with a six-point performance, three goals and three assists. In goal, Sam Horan stopped nine shots and Avery Dyer stopped three.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs held Columbia scoreless from the 11:17 mark of the second quarter until the 8:14 mark of the fourth quarter. That is a total of 33:03 without allowing a goal.

THE NOTE
The six goals SDSU allowed were tied for the fewest given up this year.
