SAN DIEGO – Following its final regular season non-conference dual at UCLA last week, the San Diego State men's tennis team jumps back into Mountain West action for its last five competitions, starting with a road contest at UNLV on Friday and hosting Utah State on Sunday.

UNLV (11-11, 0-2 Mountain West)
• This will be the 37th meeting between these two programs, with the Aztecs holding a 26-10 advantage in the all-time series. • Since the formation of the Mountain West conference, prior to the start of the 1999-2000 season, SDSU has won 22-of-28 meetings (22-6) and is 5-5 against the Rebels in Las Vegas.
• UNLV is led by Christopher Bulus (18-16 overall, 13-5 duals), who was No. 84 in singles in the March 23, ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.
• Aztec head coach Gene Carswell, who took control of the program in the 2004 season, has a 19-5 record against UNLV, which includes a 5-4 mark against the Rebels in Las Vegas.
Utah State (7-10, 1-1 Mountain West)
• Dating back to the first matchup in the 2015 season, this will be the eighth meeting between these two programs, with Utah State holding a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series.
• The Aggies have won the last five duals and other than a 4-2 loss in the 2019 season, San Diego State been unable to score more than a single point against Utah State.
• Aztec head coach Gene Carswell has a 1-6 record against Utah State, all since the Aggies joined the Mountain West.
About the Aztecs
• San Diego State is 5-8 overall and 1-0 in Mountain West Conference play entering this week's action.
• In its conference opener, against Air Force on March 13, SDSU defeated the Falcons 4-1 at the Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU dropped the doubles point and then swept the singles to take the dual.
• Joe Tyler has a 7-3 record (4-3 at No. 1 and 3-0 at No. 2) in dual matches and is 13-7 overall. He is 5-7 in doubles in dual matches, all at No. 1 (3-3 w/ Victor Castro & 2-4 w/ Alexander Mandma). In his last singles outing, he went to a second-set tiebreaker at UCLA, but fell 7-5, 7-6 (4).
• Victor Castro has four appearances at No. 2 singles, the most on the squad, and is 1-3 at the spot. He is 3-2 at No. 2 and 0-1 at No. 3 with an overall dual match record of 4-6. In dual match doubles, he is 3-3 with Joe Tyler at No. 1 and 3-3 at No. 2 with Johannes Seeman. In his last singles outing he went to a second-set tiebreaker at UCLA, but fell 6-1, 7-6 (4).
• Johannes Seeman has played at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, and is 1-2, 0-3, and 4-1, respectively, at those spots. In doubles he has played with three partners. At No. 2, he is 3-0 with Victor Castro and 1-3 with Alexander Mandma, and 0-1 with Jules Auffray at No. 3. In his last singles outing he went to a second & third-set tiebreaker at UCLA, but fell 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5).
• Alexander Mandma with 4-7 in dual match singles with a 0-2 mark at No. 3 and 4-5 at No. 4. His nine appearances at No. 4 are the team high at the spot and overall is one of three Aztecs to reach double-digit wins (10). In dual match doubles, he is 2-4 at No. 1 with Joe Tyler and 1-3 at No. 2 with Johannes Seeman. In his last singles outing he went to three sets at UCLA, but fell 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
• Judson Blair has a dual match record of 5-7 which includes going 1-0 at No. 5 and 4-7 at No. 6. He has played eight matches with Jules Auffray at No. 3 doubles and together the pair have a 2-6 record. In his last outing, at UCLA, he fell 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6.
• Jules Auffray has competed nine times in singles and compiled a 3-6 record. He is 1-0 at No. 4 and 2-6 at No. 5. He has competed nine times at No. 3 doubles and has a 2-6 record with Judson Blair and 1-0 with Johannes Seeman. In his last singles outing, he went to three sets at UCLA, falling 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4).
• Roni Rikkonen is 2-2 in dual match singles at both No. 5 (1-1) and No. 6 (1-1). He has not competed in dual match doubles competition this season and in his last singles outing, vs. Portland lost 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
• In his 19th year leading the San Diego State program, head coach Gene Carswell has amassed 226 career victories and has been named the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year four times (2005, '06, '07 & '13).
