EUGENE, Ore. – The Aztecs 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams are off to the NCAA Outdoor Championships this Thursday through Saturday, held at prestigious Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. All track events will be available to watch on ESPN U on Thursday and on ESPN on Saturday.
The 4x100m relay team earned an automatic qualifier spot by finishing third in their heat two weeks ago at the NCAA West Prelims in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The team of Tai McDonald, Jalyn Harris, Aisha Watt and Jada Moore finished in 44.60, their second fastest time this season. Additionally, the 4x400m team also earned an automatic qualifier spot by finishing third in their heat as well. That team of Harris, Watt, Danae Dyer and Sakura Roberson ran 3:33.42, the second fastest time in school history at NCAA West Prelims, it was also the first time the quartet had run the 4x400m relay together this season.
Dyer, McDonald, Moore, Roberson and Watt will all be competing in their second NCAA Outdoor Championships and Harris will be competing at her third Outdoor Championships.
Both relays will be competing on Thursday evening in the semifinal round of each respective relay. The 4x100m relay will look to book a spot in the finals at 5:32 p.m. PT, and the 4x400m relay will compete at 8:48 p.m. PT. Both races will be available to watch on ESPN U. The top two times from each of the three heats in addition to the next best three times will advance to Saturday's final.
NCAA Outdoor Championships Notes
• The Aztecs have two relay teams (4x100m,4x400m) competing this weekend.
• SDSU has had a relay team or individual representative in 24 of the last 25 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
• The Aztecs have had their 4x400m relay team qualify for three of the last four NCAA Outdoor Championships (2018, 2019 & 2022) as well as the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championship.
• Both the 4x100m and the 4x400m relay team qualified for nationals, making it the first time since 2018 that both relay teams qualified.
• SDSU is the only non-power five program to send their 4x100 meter relay to five of the last six NCAA Outdoor Championships (2016, 17, 18, 21 & 22).
• The Aztecs are one of three west coast programs (USC & Oregon) to have their 4x100m relay team qualify for five of the last six NCAA Outdoor Championships.
• The Aztecs are the only non-power five program to send both relay teams to the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
