SOUTH BEND, Ind. – San Diego State cross country finished sixth in the gold division of the Joe Piane – Notre Dame Invitational on Friday morning at the Burke Golf Course. Jessica Kain finished sixth overall in the race in 17:08.4 to pace the Aztecs.
SDSU started the race off strongly as a group in the first half of the race, before running as a pack in the second half to secure a top third finish. The Aztecs came in 6th place overall out of 19 squads competing, and finished in front of 13 other schools, including the likes of power five Texas Tech.
Jessica Kain was the first Aztec to cross the finish line. The senior ran 17:08.4 to finish sixth overall out of 145 student-athletes who competed. Lauren Harper was the next Aztec to cross the tape. She came in 21st and posted a time of 17:43.3. Right behind her in 28th overall was Vanessa Cabello who finished the 5k course in 17:49.4.
The final two Aztecs who made up the scoring five for SDSU on Friday were Amber Elias and Bella Peretti. Elias finished in 18:35.3 to come in 62nd place, while Peretti continued her solid freshman campaign by finished 69th in 18:39.1
Also running on Friday were Maddy Parrone, Taylor Lustyan and Nicole Meyer who came in 84th, 85th and 90th respectively. Parrone ran 18:58.9, Lustyan finished in 18:59.2, and Myer finished in 19:01.1.
