SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team sent three players across town to play in the Hagedorn Hidden Dual on the campus of the University of San Diego on Friday, matching up against the Arizona Wildcats. Johannes Seeman was the star for the Scarlet and Black, defeating the 46th ranked player in the country in a late addition tournament to the SDSU schedule.
The first Aztec to win two singles matches this season, Seeman notched his third and most impressive on Friday. He faced a top 50 player in the country, the Wildcats No. 46-ranked Gustaf Strom. After falling 6-4 in the first set, Seeman stormed back to win 6-4 in both the second and third to earn the highest ranked win in his collegiate career.
At 4-1, the best singles record on the team, Alexander Mandma battled Dominique Rolland. After a 6-3 defeat in the first set, Mandma bounced back to win the second 6-4. In a hard-fought deciding set, he served with a chance to clinch the match six times, but could not finish the comeback, falling 7-5.
Tokyo native Chikaya Sato faced a fellow Japanese player, Hiroki Sakagawa, but was bested 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles, Sato and Seeman teamed up to take on Nick Lagaev and Jay Friend, but it was the Wildcats who ended up on top, 6-1.
The Hagedorn Hidden Dual continues tomorrow, Oct. 15, with the Aztecs facing the Michigan Wolverines, a top-five ranked program.
