SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis wrapped up another day of competition at two different sites around San Diego on Saturday. The Aztecs had a doubles team advance to the finals of their flight at the USD Collegiate Invitational, and had three athletes in action at the SDSU Fall Classic I.
USD Collegiate Invitational, San Diego
Dariya Detkovskaya and Andjela Skrobonja were in action on Saturday morning as a doubles pair, looking to an impressive 3-0 in doubles play. The duo had already taken down teams from the University of Arizona and North Texas heading into Saturday, and then made it three on Saturday. The two Aztecs earned their third win of the tournament, 6-3, over Marisa Schmidt and Samantha Mannix of Iowa to advance to Sunday's final. Additionally, Alicia Melosch and Andreea Velcea won their doubles match 6-3 over a team from Kansas State.
As for singles play three Aztecs were in action. Skrobonja continued her hot start to her first campaign as an Aztec with another power five win on Saturday. This time she took down Sasha Vagramov of UCLA in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Other Aztecs in action in singles were Melosch and Detkovskaya. Melosch won in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 while Detkovskaya fell 4-6, 5-7 on Saturday afternoon.
SDSU Fall Classic I, San Diego
It was a tougher day for the athletes competing on The Mesa. San Diego State had three athletes competing in singles play, as well as a doubles pair but could only find one win on the day. Julia Jordan was the lone Aztec to emerge win a win on Saturday, advancing to the finals of the white flight with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Camila Garcia of Cal State Fullerton. The junior has now won two singles matches and a doubles match over the course of the weekend.
The rest of the Aztecs had a tougher time at the SDSU Fall Classic I. The doubles duo of Jordan and Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer dropped a tough match 7-6 (7). Von Tersch Pohrer also fell in her singles match, but forced two sets to a tiebreaker and fell in a three-set match 5-7, 6-4, 5-7. Additionally, Cecile Morin was in action for the Aztecs in singles play. She also forced her match to a decisive third set, but came up just short falling 4-6, 7-5, 4-6 in her semifinal match in the white bracket.
