SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis wrapped up day three at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Saturday. The Aztecs combined for three wins on the day, including Andjela Skrobonja's quarterfinal round win to advance to the tournament's semifinal round tomorrow.
The most anticipated match of the day for the Aztecs was Skrobonja, who faced off against UCLA's Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and emerged victorious in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Skrobonja managed to stretch the court both horizontally and vertically against Lutkemeyer throughout the match. The result was a solid number of net opportunities, which Skrobonja was able to capitalize on at an efficient rate. The win was Skrobonja's fourth in a row in singles play in the tournament, and she has now knocked off opponents from Arizona State, San Diego, UCLA and Cal State Fullerton so far this weekend. She will now take on the No. 7 seed Savannah Broadus in the semifinal round on Sunday.
Elsewhere, three Aztecs played consolation matches in the afternoon. Alicia Melosch went on the offensive early and often against Isabelle Lee of USC, riding a hot hand to victory in a convincing 6-3, 6-0 match. Dariya Detkovskaya overcame a slow start to defeat Reece Carter of Arizona 2-6, 6-3 (10-8), and Cecile Morin fought hard but ultimately fell to UC Irvine's Alyssia Fossorier 4-6, 6-3 (5) to finish up the Aztecs' day.
On Saturday morning, Detkovskaya and Skrobonja competed in doubles and fell to McKenna Koenig and Isabelle Lee of USC 8-4 in the round of 16.
Up Next: Andjela Skrobonja will compete in the tournament's semifinals round tomorrow against Savannah Broadus of Pepperdine.
