NORMAN, Okla. – The San Diego State men's golf team is ranked 20th in the final 2022 Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll, which was released Friday afternoon. The Aztecs moved up two places from the last poll (Oct. 28) despite not playing in an event.
SDSU ended its fall campaign on Oct. 11 with a runner-up finish at the 12-team Wolf Pack Intercollegiate. San Diego State also won the 19-team William H. Tucker Invitational (Sept. 23-24) and finished eighth of 18 in a loaded Maui Jim Intercollegiate (Sept. 9-11).
The Aztecs received 148 points in the latest poll after receiving 88 in the last poll. Just ahead of SDSU is No. 19 Kansas State with 160 points. Others ranked behind San Diego State are No. 21 Colorado State (112), No. 22 Arizona (82), No. 23 Mississippi State (47), No. 24 Georgia (43) and No. 25 Ohio State (25). Auburn is ranked first with 543 points and 15 of the 22 first-place votes, while Vanderbilt has 533 points and the other seven first-place votes. Texas Tech (487), North Carolina (469) and Arizona State (467) round out the top 5.
The Aztecs are also 19th in the latest GolfStat team ratings (Nov. 15) and 20th in the Golfweek/Sagarin team ratings (Nov. 16).
Sophomore Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) led SDSU with a 69.00 stroke average in fall play and is ranked 20th in the latest GolfStat individual ratings (Nov. 14). Senior Youssef Guezzale (San Diego/La Jolla HS) (70.22), freshman Dylan Oyama (Carlsbad, Calif./Pacific Ridge HS) (70.67), sophomore Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) (70.78) and freshman Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) (71.00) also shot under par this fall for SDSU.
San Diego State will begin its spring campaign at the Southwestern Invitational, Jan. 30-Feb. 1, at North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, California.
