COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez (Tijuana, Mexico) was named Mountain West Diver of the Week for her efforts at the UCLA Bruin Invitational, held Jan. 13-15 in Los Angeles.
With her award, Lechuga Gonzalez collected her second straight conference weekly honor and third of the season, giving her 10 such accolades for her career.
Under often rainy conditions and against a stacked field that included numerous Power 5 schools, Lechuga Gonzalez was the lone Mountain West participant to advance to the finals of all three events over the weekend.
The SDSU senior finished strong with a fourth-place effort in the finals of the 1-meter springboard on Sunday after posting an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 289.95 points for an aggregate total of 572.60 points in the event.
Previously, Lechuga Gonzalez was one of just two MW divers to advance to the platform finals on Saturday when she placed ninth with 437.70 points overall.
In addition, the Tijuana, Mexico, native, was the top conference diver among three competitors in the finals of the 3-meter springboard last Friday, finishing 13th overall after totaling 527.05 points.
The San Diego State swim and dive program returns to action with a full squad on Friday, Jan. 27, when it battles the University of San Diego for the third time this season in a dual meet, beginning at 2 p.m. PT. Aztec swimmers will face the Toreros in USD's home pool, while SDSU divers play host to their counterparts at Aztec Aquaplex at the same time.
