RENO, Nev. – The Aztec women's basketball team (19-7, 9-4) won at Nevada 67-51 (9-15, 6-7) Thursday evening after holding the Wolf Pack to 26 percent shooting from the field. With the win, SDSU remains in a three-way tie for second place in the Mountain West.
"We had great defensive effort tonight," Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. "Any win on the road in this really good conference is a good one, so I'm proud of our effort."
The Aztecs were led by Asia Avinger who scored 23 on 11-for-16 shooting, her fourth game topping 20 points this year.
"She was great tonight," Terry-Hutson explained. "She's so dynamic off the bounce and did a great job finishing today.
Sophia Ramos and Yummy Morris each had 13 points. For Morris, it was her sixth straight game scoring in double-digits.
SDSU held Nevada to three field goals each in both the first and third quarter and led by nine after the first and 17 at the half.
The Aztec's shooting cooled in the third quarter, but SDSU's defense never wavered and the Wolf Pack never got closer than 15 points the rest of the night.
SDSU shot 51 percent from the field while holding Nevada to 26 percent from the field and 20 percent from three.

The Aztecs outscored Nevada 40-14 in the paint.
THE NOTE
This is San Diego State's first win at Nevada since February 23, 2013, snapping an eight-game losing streak.
UP NEXT
The Aztecs' road trip continues Saturday when SDSU plays at San Jose State at 1 p.m. The Spartans lost to Colorado State 59-57 Thursday.
