ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Aztec track and field team continued competition at the Mountain West Indoor Championships Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Jenna Fee Feyerabend finished second in the high jump competition, and 11 athletes advanced to the finals of their respective events on Friday.
Jenna Fee Feyerabend's 5-09.25 performance in high jump earned her a second-place finish, a new personal best, and maintained her spot as best in SDSU indoor history.
"It's 90% willpower and 10% technique. I enjoyed today's competition a lot because I was able to go out there, have fun, and be the fairy-girl everyone calls me (my second name, Fee, means fairy in German)," Feyerabend said after day two of the meet. "I've always got my team's backs and the energy is uplifting as usual. We are proud to represent SDSU with arete (women of excellence)."
In the long jump, Simone Johnson and Dejanae Thompson both competed for the Aztecs. Johnson placed fifth with a jump of 19-06.75, earning a new PR, while Thompson placed 16th with a leap of 18-08.00.
Jada Moore put up a solid mark in the 60m dash, earning the second best time in SDSU indoor history. She posted a 7.30, won her heat, earned a new PR, and advanced to the finals. Shaquena Foote and Danae Dyer also qualified for the finals by finishing fifth (7.49) and eighth (7.51), a new PR for Dyer.
In the 60m hurdles, Danae Dyer qualified for the finals after winning her heat in a new PR time of 8.18. Charlize James also qualified for the finals with a time of 8.49 and a first-place finish in her heat.
Three Aztecs advanced to the finals in the 200m dash. Shaquena Foote ran 23.49 to win her heat and advance to the finals. Jada Moore posted a 23.66 to win her heat and advance to the finals. Aisha Watt also advanced to tomorrow's finals; she ran 23.93. All three achieved new personal records.
SDSU had two athletes competing in the 400m dash. Sydney Bentley's 54.88 mark advanced her to the final tomorrow and PR'd. Rhea Hoyte won her heat in 56.15 but her time came up just outside the top eight after finishing 11th overall.
As for the 800m run, Alex Lomeli placed sixth with a time of 2:14.59 to qualify for the finals.
In the mile, Jessica Kain earned a place in tomorrow's finals after winning her heat with a mark of 4:56.63.
Competing in the weight throw, Felicia Crenshaw placed 11th with a throw of 55-04.75, earning a new PR and the sixth best in SDSU indoor history.
