SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State track and field team will be in action this weekend at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational this Saturday, held across town at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.
The Aztecs will send the pole vault squad and throwers to the event with all the competing athletes set for outdoor competition for the first time this season.
Ashley Callahan and Corey Friedenbach will compete in the pole vault after an exceptional showing at the 2022 meet where the Aztecs swept the podium with first through fourth-place finishes.
Callahan placed first at last year's meet and was the only athlete to clear 13-5.75 (4.11m). Friedenbach, meanwhile, is returning to the meet following a fourth-place finish with a vault of 12-06.00 (3.81m).
In the throws, SDSU will compete in discus, shot put, and hammer throw. Erica Grotegeer and Onyi Anigbogu will both compete in discus and shot put, while Zoe Brosch will participate in the hammer throw.
The meet will begin at 9 a.m. PT Saturday starting with the hammer throw, followed by the shot put at noon, pole vault at 1 p.m. PT and discus at 2:45 p.m. PT.
Following Saturday's competition at PLNU, the Aztecs will return to SDSU to prepare for the 44th annual Aztec Invitational at the SDSU Aztrack.
