SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team went up against the No. 25-ranked Memphis Tigers at the Aztec Tennis Center on Sunday, March 19, the final day of the San Diego Spring Invitational. Johannes Seeman led the nation's No. 48-ranked singles player and the top half of the Aztecs singles lineup kept things competitive, but Memphis earned a 4-0 win.

The Scarlet and Black fall to 1-9 this season, while Memphis improves to 9-5. 

"After a long weekend of top NCAA nationally ranked competition, we are looking forward to the upcoming training period that we'll have to work to get better and get ourselves prepared for the Mountain West conference play that we've got in front of us," head coach Gene Carswell had to say after today's match.

On the top singles court, Seeman (4-4) went up against No. 48 Pablo Alemany. He took the first set 6-3 to jump out to an early lead over his ranked opponent. After dropping the second 6-1, he led 3-2 in the third at the time the match was clinched.

Mathieu Josserand (0-5) rejoined the singles lineup and played on the No. 6 court against Harry Rock but lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

On the fourth court, Bora Sengul (0-7) dropped both his sets to Conor Gannon in a 6-4, 6-1 defeat. 

Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice (1-4) played on the No. 5 court and was bested 6-3, 6-2 by Jeremy Taylor.

Playing on the No. 2 court, Chikaya Sato (2-6) drew David Stevenson. After falling 6-1 in the first set, he stormed back to take the second 6-3. He trailed 1-0 in the third when the match was called.

Alexander Mandma (1-4) faced Oscar Cutting on the third court. He fell in a close first set 6-4 but led 3-2 in the second when the match was decided.

In doubles, on the third court, Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Andre Saleh lost to Cutting and Alemany 6-1. Mandma and Sengul were shutout by Rock and Gannon 6-0 on the second court. On the top court, the No. 80-ranked team of Seeman and Sato trailed the pairing of Stevenson and Taylor 5-3 when Memphis clinched the doubles point.

San Diego State will conclude its nonconference schedule against No. 37-ranked UTSA on March 31 at 2 p.m. PT at the Aztec Tennis Center.
