SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State softball team takes a break in Mountain West play to take on California Baptist Tuesday night at John C. Funk Stadium in Riverside, California. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. PT.
The Aztecs (18-10) are coming off a weekend in which they took two of three games from conference foe Fresno State at SDSU Softball Stadium.
SDSU is hitting .298 as a team and is led by Bella Espinoza's .406 average. Espinoza also paces San Diego State in runs (29), hits (39) and stolen bases, going 17-for-17 on the season. Jillian Celis is batting .376, while ranking second in RBIs (22), hits (35), runs (17) and slugging percentage (.581). Macey Keester (.315, 11 R, 13 RBI, 7 SB) and Cali Decker (.324, 1 HR, 11 RBI. .444 OB%) are also hitting over .300 for SDSU, while Mac Barbara's (.333) five home runs, .603 slugging percentage and 23 RBIs lead the team.
Four Aztecs have logged at least 30 innings in the circle and have combined for five shutouts in their 18 wins. Sarah Lehman (6-2, 2.49 ERA, 2 SV, 45.0 IP), Dani Martinez (3-2, 2.48 ERA, 31.0 IP), Allie Light (4-4, 1.85 ERA, 5 SV, 56.2 IP) and Dee Dee Hernandez (3-2, 3.56 ERA, 3 SV, 39.1 IP) have done the bulk of the pitching for SDSU.
San Diego State is 5-1 all-time against California Baptist, including wins in each of the last four meetings in 2021 (5-2, 2-0, 11-2) and 2022 (3-0).
The Lancers (19-13) are hitting .251 with two regulars over .330 in Sydney Soto (.333, 16 R, 25 H, 9 RBI) and Priscilla Estrada (.330, 17 R, 33 H, 10 RBI). Alyssa Argomaniz (3-3, 2.18 ERA, 57.2 IP), Presley Hosick (6-4, 2.46 ERA, 57.0 IP) and Morgan McConnell (5-5, 3.23 ERA, 52.0 IP) pace a pitching staff that has a 2.56 ERA with five shutouts.
Following the game with California Baptist, the Aztecs will return to SDSU Softball Stadium for a home series against San Jose State this weekend with games scheduled for 6 p.m. PT Friday, 4 p.m. PT Saturday and Noon PT Sunday.
