SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis earned a comeback win on Wednesday afternoon, beating Furman 4-3 at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs dropped the doubles point before winning four singles matches to earn the win on Wednesday.
Down two athletes in the usual singles rotation, and down 3-2 overall with two matches to play, SDSU's Tamara Arnold on court one and Alicia Melosch entered their third sets in their respective matches. Arnold had cruised to a 6-2 win in her first set before falling in her second 6-4, while Melosch had done the opposite dropped her first set and won her second set to force a third set. On court one, Arnold then went back-and-forth with her opponent and her match was tied 5-5 in the third set, while over on the third court the same had happened to Melosch, as her match was tied 5-5 and could have gone either way as well.
Arnold then earned a 7-5 win in her third set on court one to even the match at 3-3, while Melosch kept battling on court three. She fell behind 5-6 before retying the match after a long rally at 6-6, and forcing a tiebreaker. In that tiebreaker she earned the Aztecs the match clinching point with a 7-3 tiebreaker win, earning the Aztecs (5-4) a 4-3 win over Furman (5-10).
Earlier in the match it was the usual doubles lineup for the Aztecs and the point was hotly contested.
