SAN DIEGO – San Diego State senior forward Keshad Johnson has announced that he is leaving the Aztecs men's basketball program and is making himself eligible for the NBA Draft and putting his name in the transfer portal. The announcement was made jointly by Johnson and SDSU head men's basketball coach Brian Dutcher on Wednesday.
"We can't thank Keshad enough for everything he has done for our program in the last four years and wish him nothing but the best as he moves into this next phase of his career," Dutcher said. "He has grown into a leader both on and off the court and is the quintessential example of a student-athlete, excelling in the classroom as well as on the court. He is an Aztec for life and will always occupy a huge presence on The Mesa."
"After consultation with my family and close advisors, I've made the difficult decision to conclude my SDSU career and make myself available for the NBA Draft and enter the transfer portal to explore all my options," Johnson said. "I want to thank Coach Dutcher, the entire coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone in Aztec Nation for the support and love they have shown me and my family during my four years at San Diego State."
Johnson, who was the team's leading scorer in the national championship game with 14 points and will graduate in May, averaged a career-high 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in 2022-23. He shot 53.2 percent (115-of-216) from the floor and his 194 total rebounds are 50 more than his single-season previous season-high. He also set single-season bests in minutes (866), 3-point percentage (26.2), free throw percentage (.648) and both offensive (59) and defensive (135) boards.
