SAN DIEGO – This weekend, the San Diego State men's tennis team will host its final two matches of the season at the Aztec Tennis Center. The contest between the Aztecs and the UC San Diego Tritons was originally scheduled for 5:45 p.m. PT on Wednesday, April 12, but has been delayed until 2 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 15, due to inclement weather. SDSU will face Nevada at the same time on the following day.
The Scarlet and Black (1-12, 0-3) fell 4-1 in Logan, Utah, to the Utah State Aggies on Saturday, April 8, in their second road match of the season.
In the match, SDSU was led by sophomore Alexander Mandma (3-5). After falling 6-1 in the first set to Utah State's Stijn Paardekooper, he bounced back to take the second 6-2 and the third 6-0 to win his second consecutive match.
The Tritons (7-13, 0-3) last won 4-2 at Division II opponent Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday, April 1 and were rained out at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on April 13. They are playing at UC Riverside Friday, April 14, ahead of Saturday's match. The Wolf Pack (8-6, 2-1) lost 4-1 at New Mexico on Saturday, April 8. They are in Las Vegas to face UNLV on Friday before they head to The Mesa.
Last year, San Diego State won 6-1 in its first match of the spring season to stay perfect at 12-0 in the all-time series against UC San Diego. SDSU fell 4-2 in its final regular season match last season to drop to 11-4 all-time against Nevada.
Next week, San Diego State will conclude its regular season with a road trip. The Aztecs will play matches at the No. 73-ranked New Mexico Lobos on Thursday, April 20 and the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, April 22.
