SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – San Diego State women's cross country raced in their second meet of the season in the pacific northwest, facing some of the best competition in the country at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. As a team, the Aztecs finished 12th of 14 teams in the scoring.
For the second consecutive meet to begin the year, Jessica Kain paced the team with a time of 20:52.1 for a 27th place finish. Behind her was Eva Rethmeier in 46th with a time of 21:24.
Vanessa Cabello was the third Aztec across the line with a time of 22:21.0, not far ahead of Alex Lomeli at 22:38.9 who jumped seven spots between the last checkpoint and finish line. Maddie Heller was the fifth across with a time of 22:45.3.
Sophia Nevin (23:13.1) set a new personal best, ahead of Amber Elias (23:13.1) and Maddy Parrone (23:52.5) who rounded out the Aztec lineup in Oregon.
BYU claimed the top spot in the team standings with 42 points while Oregon State's Kaylee Mitchell won the race with a time of 19:37.2.
The next meet on the schedule for the Aztecs will be the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 14 in Riverside, Calif.
