SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's golf team opens the spring season with their annual home tournament, the San Diego State Classic at their home course, the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

The 54-hole tournament will get underway Monday with 36 holes beginning with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start. The final 18 will be played Tuesday, also with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

The tournament features a 12-team field where four are ranked in the top 30: No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Oregon, No. 23 Virginia, and No. 30 Georgia. Also competing is California Baptist Colorado, Denver, New Mexico, San Francisco, Tulane and UNLV.
 
The Aztecs finished the fall season with their best showing, shooting a seven-over-par 871 at The Clash at Boulder Creek led by Ema Narita's five-under-par 211.
 
Head coach Lauren Dobashi (3rd season) will use the lineup of Stephanie Barbaglia, Anna Lina Otten, Emma Narita, Andrea Gomez and Anika Sato. Additionally, freshman Nikki Kato will be playing as an individual and making her collegiate debut.

Barbaglia (Johannesburg, South Africa) had the second best 18-hole average (74.1) in the fall season and finished in the top three among SDSU golfers in all four tournaments, including a top finish at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate where she shot a one-over par 217.
 
Otten (Neuss, Germany) had an incredibly consistent fall season, shooting between a 74 and 76 in 10 of her 12 rounds.
 
Narita (Tokyo, Japan) was the top Aztec finisher in three of SDSU's four fall tournaments and led SDSU with an 18-hole average of 73.2 Her 211 at The Clash at Boulder Creek was the lowest score by an Aztec since 2019 (Sara Kjellker) and lowest by a freshman since 2015 (Milagros Chaves).
   
Gomez (Huixquilucan, Mexico) scored in 94% of SDSU's fall rounds and she has a career count percentage of 89.6%. Her five-over-par 221 at The Clash at Boulder Creek was one stroke off her career-bes 54-hole score.

Sato (Utsunomiya, Japan) battled injuries during the fall season, but finished with her best performance at The Clash at Boulder Creek where she shot a three-over-par 219.
Kato (Redmond, Wash.) missed the fall season with an injury and will be making her debut. She was the fourth-ranked junior in Washington.

This is the 12th time SDSU has hosted this tournament. They won it in 2020 when it was a match play format and Sara Kjellker tied for second in 2021.

The forecast for both days will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid-60s.
