SAN DIEGO – Redshirt sophomore Shaquena Foote has been the Mountain West Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. The conference office announced on Tuesday.
For the second consecutive week, Foote broke her own school record in the indoor 400m dash running a time of 52.60 at the Don Kirby Invitational this past Saturday. The altitude-adjusted time is 52.71 which ranks fourth fastest in Mountain West history. For the event, she finished second overall, behind Oregon's Ella Clayton and just ahead of Team USA's Shae Anderson.
With the Mountain West Championships approaching, the Jamaica native increases her lead in the conference rankings and moves up to 26th in the nation.
Foote also ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay race to close out the weekend. Joined by Rhea Hoyte, Aji Mbye and Lidia Major, the quartet finished with a time of 3:39.32 which ranks third fastest in San Diego State indoor history. The Aztecs finished fourth overall in the field of 24 relay teams.
San Diego State has a weekend off from competition this weekend as they prepare for the Mountain West Championships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 22 in Albuquerque, N.M.
