SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team returns home Saturday to host Utah State at noon.
Aztec Tidbits
• It is SDSU's annual Play4Kay game, benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
• The Aztecs are coming off a 72-71 loss at Nevada Wednesday. SDSU never led and trailed by as many as 16 points but had the ball in the final seconds with a chance to win.
• SDSU shot 52.1% from the field and held the Wolf Pack to 36.4% shooting.
• This was the Aztecs' highest field goal percentage in a loss since Nov. 10, 2013 (93-89 vs. Sacramento State), head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson's first game.
• SDSU had 26 bench points, their second most on the year, led by Jazlen Green's 13 points. It was just Green's third game of the season. Prior to that, she hadn't played since March 5, 2022 with Cal.
• SDSU is averaging just 12.9 turnovers per game, the 24th fewest in the nation
• The Aztecs are second in the Mountain West in conference games in scoring, averaging 65.4 points per game.
• In SDSU's last seven games they are 5-2. In their five wins, they are forcing 21.4 turnovers per game. In their two losses they forced just 11.0 turnovers per game.
• The Aztecs lead the Mountain West in free throws made per game (12.7) and are second in attempts (16.4 per game). They are shooting 77.3% from the line (26th in the nation)
• SDSU has four players averaging at least 10 points per game: Adryana Quezada (14.7), Abby Prohaska (10.7), Kim Villalobos (10.6) and Jada Lewis (10.4).
• The Aztecs have had eight different players score in double-digits this year.
• SDSU's starting lineup features two sixth year seniors (Barcello and Prohaska), two fifth year seniors (Lewis and Quezada) and a fourth-year senior (Villalobos). This is believed to be the most experienced starting five in the nation.
• Adryana Quezada is one of seven players in the nation to have at least 1,200 points, 500 rebounds and 100 assists in their career while averaging at least 14.0 points per game and shooting at least 52% from the field.
• Abby Prohaska leads the conference in free throw percentage of 85.9%, while Quezada leads the Mountain West in conference play (83.3%)
• Over the last two seasons, the Aztecs are 24-7 at home and 19-7 in non-conference games.
• SDSU won at least nine non-conference games for the second season in a row. It's the first time they've done that in back-to-back seasons since 2011-12 and 2012-13.
• SDSU has gone to overtime four times this season, tied for the most in program history. They didn't go to OT once last season.
• All four of SDSU's 2024 recruits were nominated for the McDonald's All-American game: guards Kaelyn Hamilton (McKinney, Texas), Natalia Martinez (San Leandro, Calif.) and Naomi Panganiban (La Jolla, Calif.) and forward Bailey Barnhard (San Diego).
Player Notes
• Adryana Quezada (Frisco, Texas) is shooting a career-high 54.4% from the floor, which is fourth in the MW.
• She has scored in double-digits in all but four games and has led SDSU in scoring 16 times.
• Quezada passed 1,200 points in her career at Nevada Wednesday. She also currently has 590 rebounds.
• Against Penn, she became the first Aztec since 2020, and just seventh in the Mountain West era, to have at least 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a game. Out of those seven, Quezada accomplished the feat in the fewest number of minutes.
• In conference play, Kim Villalobos (Los Angeles), is sixth in the Mountain West in rebounding (7.3 rpg), eighth in blocks (1.0 bpg) and ninth in steals (1.5 spg) and She is the only player in the conference in the top 10 in all three categories.
• Villalobos is the first post player to lead SDSU in steals since Khristina Hunter in the 2014-15 season.
• Villalobos is one point away from 900 in her career and has 587 rebounds.
• Villalobos has nine career double-doubles and five of them have happened since the beginning of conference play.
• Villalobos stuffed the stat sheet vs. Westcliff earlier this year and became just the second Aztec in the Mountain West era (1999-present) to have at least 15 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists in a game, joining SDSU Hall of Famer Jené Morris.
• Jada Lewis (Rocklin, Calif.) is making 2.04 three-pointers per game, fourth in the Mountain West.
• Lewis, who played her first four years at Portland State, has made 259 three-pointers in her career. The SDSU record is 249 by Jamey Cox (2000-03).
• Lewis is 78-for-90 (86.7%) from the free throw line in her career.
• Abby Prohaska (Liberty Township, Ohio) leads the Mountain West in free throw percentage (85.5%) this season. She has shot 85.1% from the line in her career (165-194) and 86.3% (120-139) while at SDSU.
• Prohaska is averaging career-highs in minutes, points, rebounds, assists, and three-point percentage.
• Sarah Barcello (Phoenix, Ariz.) is leading the team in minutes (32.2) in conference play.
• Barcello is averaging career-highs in minutes per game (30.9) and field goal percentage (.448) and her three-point percentage of 35.8% is her best since her freshman year at Marist (41% in 2018-19).
• Four Aztecs are shooting at least 35% from three in conference play: Quezada (50%), Mia Davis (45.8%), Alyssa Jackson (42.9%) and Barcello (38.5%).
• Against Utah State, Mia Davis became just the second Aztec freshman in the Mountain West era (1999-2024) to make five or more threes in a half.
• Jazlen Green (Upland, Calif.) joined the Aztecs after the semester break and has played the last three games. She averaged 9.1 points and made 97 threes in 51 games at Cal.
Opponent Notebook (Utah State)
• The Aggies are 4-20 overall and 1-12 in conference.
• They are 2-9 on the road.
• They attempt the most free throws per game in the conference (17.8).
• They are last in the conference in points per game (56.1) and points per game allowed (70.6)
• Cheyenne Stubbs leads the team in scoring (16.0 ppg), rebounding (4.3 rpg) and assists (2.1 apg).
• Head coach Kayla Ard is in her fourth season at Utah State.
• The Aztecs lead the all-time series 14-7 and are 11-7 against the Aggies since they joined the Mountain West.
