IRVING, Texas -- The San Diego State lacrosse team has accepted an invitation to join the Big 12 Conference as an affiliate member, the league announced Wednesday.

The Aztecs are one of six teams who will play in the Big 12 for its inaugural season of lacrosse for the 2024-25 campaign, joining Arizona State, Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida and UC Davis.

"We are excited to be joining the Big 12 as an affiliate member," head coach Kylee White said. "As we continue to build our brand, we're honored to represent the Big 12 in its first season of lacrosse next year. I'm grateful for our administration, specifically (director of athletics) John David Wicker and (deputy A.D., people & culture / senior woman administrator) Jenny Bramer, for helping us get into a conference where we can make our past, current and future Aztecs proud. This is especially great for West Coast lacrosse and the growth of the sport."

"We are looking forward to our new home for San Diego State lacrosse in the Big 12 Conference," said Wicker. "This gives our lacrosse program stability and a chance to fight for conference championships. This is an exciting time for SDSU athletics, Kylee and the rest of the coaching staff, and most importantly the student-athletes."

San Diego State is coming over from the Pac-12 Conference along with Arizona State, Colorado and UC Davis. The Aztecs' first Pac-12 game is March 17 against Arizona State at Snapdragon Stadium.

"We are excited to announce San Diego State as an affiliate member in lacrosse," Big 12 Vice President for Women's Basketball & Competition Dayna Scherf said. "The addition of Aztec lacrosse supports the continued growth of women's sports across our Conference, including the league's first lacrosse championship. We look forward to welcoming the San Diego State lacrosse coaches, student-athletes and fans to Big 12 competition."

SDSU was in the now-defunct MPSF from 2011, the program's inaugural year, until 2021. The Aztecs competed as an independent the last two seasons before joining Pac-12 for the 2023-24 campaign.

San Diego State continues is non-conference play at Denver on Sunday.
