SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team plays at San Jose State Saturday at 2 p.m.
Aztec Tidbits
• SDSU has won four of their last five games, including a 63-51 win over San Jose State at home on Jan. 20.
• The Aztecs average margin of victory in those four games is 14.5 points.
• SDSU is coming off a 60-53 win over New Mexico Wednesday.
• The Aztecs trailed by nine points late in the third quarter and then outscored the Lobos 28-12 over the last 11 minutes.
• The Lobos' 53 points was their second lowest total of the season.
• Kim Villalobos led SDSU with 16 points and 10 rebounds, her fifth double-double in Mountain West play (11 games).
• The Aztecs had their largest crowd of the season (4,206).
• SDSU is averaging just 12.8 turnovers per game, the 17th fewest in the nation
• The Aztecs are second in the Mountain West in conference games in defensive rebound percentage (77.6%) despite not having a player taller than 6'.
• In SDSU's last four wins, they are forcing 20.5 turnovers per game which has led to 22.8 points per game.
• The Aztecs are second in the Mountain West in free throw attempts (16.0) and makes (12.3) per game and are shooting 77.1% from the line (32nd in the nation)
• SDSU has four players averaging at least 10 points per game: Adryana Quezada (14.6), Abby Prohaska (10.9), Kim Villalobos (10.8) and Jada Lewis (10.1).
• The Aztecs have had eight different players score in double-digits this year.
• SDSU's starting lineup features two sixth year seniors (Barcello and Prohaska), two fifth year seniors (Lewis and Quezada) and a fourth-year senior (Villalobos). This is believed to be the most experienced starting five in the nation.
• In conference play, Villalobos is averaging 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. Her 8.0 rebounds per game are the fourth most in the conference.
• Adryana Quezada is one of six players in the nation to have at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 assists in their career while averaging at least 14.0 points per game and shooting at least 52% from the field.
• Quezada is third in the Mountain West in field goal percentage (54.4%) and fourth in free throw percentage (78.9%).
• Abby Prohaska leads the conference in free throw percentage of 85.9%.
• Jazlen Green, who joined the Aztecs at the semester break, made her season debut vs. New Mexico Wednesday. It was her first game since March 2, 2022 with Cal.
• The Aztecs are one of four teams in the Mountain West with six conference wins. Their 15 wins overall are tied for the third most in the conference.
• Over the last two seasons, the Aztecs are 24-7 at home and 19-7 in non-conference games.
• SDSU won at least nine non-conference games for the second season in a row. It's the first time they've done that in back-to-back seasons since 2011-12 and 2012-13.
• SDSU has gone to overtime four times this season, tied for the most in program history. They didn't go to OT once last season.
• All four of SDSU's 2024 recruits were nominated for the McDonald's All-American game: guards Kaelyn Hamilton (McKinney, Texas), Natalia Martinez (San Leandro, Calif.) and Naomi Panganiban (La Jolla, Calif.) and forward Bailey Barnhard (San Diego).
Player Notes
• In conference play, Kim Villalobos (Los Angeles), is fourth in the Mountain West in rebounding (8.0 rpg), fifth in steals (1.6 spg) and eighth in blocks (1.1 bpg). She is the only player in the conference in the top eighth in all three categories.
• Villalobos is the first post player to lead SDSU in steals since Khristina Hunter in the 2014-15 season.
• Villalobos has nine career double-doubles and five of them have happened since the beginning of conference play.
• Villalobos stuffed the stat sheet vs. Westcliff earlier this year and became just the second Aztec in the Mountain West era (1999-present) to have at least 15 points, seven rebounds, six steals and five assists in a game, joining SDSU Hall of Famer Jené Morris.
• Adryana Quezada (Frisco, Texas) is shooting a career-high 54.4% from the floor, which is third in the MW.
• She has scored in double-digits in all but four games and has led SDSU in scoring 14 times.
• Quezada is shooting 82.9% from the free throw line in conference play, the best amongst qualified players.
• Against Penn, she became the first Aztec since 2020, and just seventh in the Mountain West era, to have at least 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a game. Out of those seven, Quezada accomplished the feat in the fewest number of minutes.
• Both Villalobos and Quezada have exactly 580 career rebounds.
• Jada Lewis (Rocklin, Calif.) is 78-for-90 (86.7%) from the free throw line in her career.
• Lewis, who played her first four years at Portland State, has made 252 three-pointers in her career. The SDSU record is 249 by Jamey Cox (2000-03).
• Abby Prohaska (Liberty Township, Ohio) leads the Mountain West in free throw percentage (85.9%) this season. She has shot 85.2% from the line in her career (155-182) and 86.6% (110-127) while at SDSU.
• Prohaska is averaging career-highs in minutes, points, rebounds, assists, and three-point percentage.
• Prohaska collected her 400th career rebound Wednesday.
• Sarah Barcello (Phoenix, Ariz.) is leading the team in minutes (33.3) in conference play.
• Barcello is averaging career-highs in minutes per game (31.3) and field goal percentage (.448) and her three-point percentage of 36.0% is her best since her freshman year at Marist (41% in 2018-19).
• Five Aztecs are shooting at least 35% from three in conference play: Quezada (50%), Alyssa Jackson (50%), Mia Davis (45.8%), Barcello (39.4%) and Khylee Pepe (36.4%).
• Against Utah State, Mia Davis became just the second Aztec freshman in the Mountain West era (1999-2024) to make five or more threes in a half.
• Jazlen Green (Upland, Calif.) joined the Aztecs after the semester break. She averaged 9.1 points and made 97 threes in 51 games at Cal.
